SA e-commerce has very specific requirements that generic Shopify theme agencies in Johannesburg or Cape Town frequently miss. Payment gateways are the obvious one — EFT is still the preferred method for a significant portion of SA shoppers, and your store needs PayFast, Peach Payments, or Yoco set up correctly alongside card payments.

But it goes further than that. Buy-now-pay-later is growing fast in SA — Payflex and Mobicred both integrate with Shopify and WooCommerce, and adding them at checkout increases average order value by 60–70% in the SA market. WhatsApp order notifications are expected. Shipping rules need to account for Courier Guy, The Courier It, and Dawn Wing, not just hypothetical flat-rate logic.

We build stores that account for all of this — not as afterthoughts, but as part of the initial build. The result is a store that SA shoppers trust, checkout flows that reduce abandonment, and a back-end that your team can actually manage.

Takealot is also part of the SA e-commerce conversation. We can integrate your store with Takealot seller accounts, manage product feeds, and build a multi-channel strategy that doesn't pit your own store against the marketplace.

Our approach

What we do differently

01
SA Payment Gateways Built In
PayFast, Peach Payments, Yoco, SnapScan, Ozow — we integrate the right gateway for your business type, with all payment methods your SA customers expect: card, EFT, SnapScan, and instant EFT via Ozow.
02
Buy-Now-Pay-Later Integration
Payflex and Mobicred both plug into Shopify and WooCommerce natively. We set these up correctly, display the instalment messaging on product pages, and configure the split-payment logic that increases AOV without increasing risk for you.
03
Mobile Checkout Optimised
The majority of SA e-commerce traffic is mobile — but most stores lose buyers at checkout. We test every checkout flow on SA mobile networks and fix the friction points: too many fields, unclear shipping costs, confusing payment options.
04
Right Platform for the Business
Shopify for straightforward product catalogues and businesses that want simplicity. WooCommerce for complex pricing rules, large product ranges, or businesses already on WordPress. We recommend what's right — not what's quickest to build.
05
POPIA Compliance from Day One
Every store we build includes cookie consent management, a proper privacy policy, POPIA-compliant customer data handling, and clear opt-in flows for email marketing. Not a legal afterthought — built in from the start.
06
Staff Training & Handover
Your team gets a full walkthrough: adding products, managing orders, processing refunds, and running promotions. Recorded videos and a written guide included. You shouldn't need us to update your own store.

How it works

The store build process

01 — PLATFORM
Platform Selection
We assess your product range, team's technical comfort, and growth plans to recommend Shopify or WooCommerce — with a clear rationale, not a default choice. This decision shapes everything that follows.
02 — DESIGN
Store Design
Custom theme design — homepage, collection pages, product pages, cart, and checkout. Built to your brand, optimised for conversion, and reviewed in detail before development begins.
03 — BUILD
Products, Payments & Shipping
Products imported and structured, payment gateways integrated and tested, BNPL configured, shipping rules set up for SA couriers, and tax handling configured for South African VAT at 15%.
04 — LAUNCH
Test, Launch & Train
End-to-end order testing across all payment methods. Mobile checkout review. Then launch, followed by a full team training session and 30 days of post-launch support.

Questions

E-Commerce answered

Shopify or WooCommerce for a South African store?
+
Both work well in SA — the right choice depends on your business. Shopify is our recommendation for most new stores: it handles hosting, security, and updates automatically, which means less maintenance for your team. Monthly subscription costs (from ±R600/month) are offset by not needing a developer for routine maintenance. WooCommerce makes more sense for businesses already on WordPress, those with complex product configurations or pricing rules, or very large catalogues where Shopify's per-transaction fees become meaningful. We'll give you a clear recommendation after a brief discussion about your specific needs.
Which payment gateways do you integrate?
+
We integrate PayFast, Peach Payments, Yoco, SnapScan, and Ozow — depending on your business type and which payment methods your customers prefer. For most SA retailers, PayFast is the starting point: it supports card payments, EFT, and instant EFT in one integration. Peach Payments suits higher-volume stores with more advanced needs. We also integrate Payflex and Mobicred for buy-now-pay-later. Card payment via Visa and Mastercard is included in all gateway setups. We handle the gateway application, integration, and testing end-to-end.
Can you migrate my existing store to a new platform?
+
Yes. We migrate from Wix, Squarespace, Magento, OpenCart, older WooCommerce installations, and even custom-built stores. The migration process includes product data, customer records (where permitted under POPIA), order history, and SEO redirect mapping so your existing search rankings are protected. Your current store stays live throughout — we switch over only once the new store has passed full QA testing. Migrations typically add 2 to 3 weeks to the project timeline.
How many products can I have in my store?
+
There's no hard limit on either Shopify or WooCommerce — stores with tens of thousands of SKUs run on both platforms. Our standard builds include import and setup of up to 500 products. For larger catalogues, we quote separately for the product import work, which can be done via bulk CSV import, API feed, or manual entry depending on your data source. We'll discuss the most efficient import approach for your specific product data during the discovery phase.
